THE FINAL OUTCOMES OF BRIEF

The Covers

These two illustrations below are my finals for the front and back cover, the front cover (below left) and the back cover (below right). The images are all illustrations I've created myself with watercolour and fineliners which i then put the whole thing together on photoshop without any effects or filters used. The only thing i did do was fade the background of the sky otherwise it would've been too much colour.

The text i kept simple, after doing research on children's books in the hive and at exhibitions i came to the decision that clear and easy to read font was the best way to go. The slug on the back cover was an accident from an imprint that came from using too much water on page. The imprint went onto the page next to it which i thought looked like a slug so i decided to use it within my work since the shape the paint took was interesting.

The Artifact

These images below here are the images I've chosen for my hanging mobile that I'm doing based on bees and where they live theme

The Fact Sheets

The images below are the fact pages where i created illustrations for the two themes and a fit them onto the page even having text work its way around the image as though the image is leading the text onward.

Task 5 : Mobile hanging & Origami

This class task was based on exploring hanging mobiles and did the activity our lecturer gave us so that we could explore more options for creating an artifact for children. We followed a piece of paper with instructions on it how to make the hanging.

This example was looking at origami fox and made it and decided for the fun of it to draw a face on it.

BOOK RESEARCH FROM CLASS

Fantastic Four
This Fantastic Four pop-up book is based on the comics but made for children so they can read a book from a younger age, this book has different types of pop-ups techniques used.

The Curious Mind of Young Darwin book
With this book i'm looking at the layout and illustrations with could be used for a reference book and its interesting to have images and typography overlap on a page making the text become one with the piece.

MAIN BRIEF : Typography

This page is about me looking at other children's books to find suitable typography for educational eBooks, the style need to be simple and easy to read otherwise the children wouldn't understand what there reading. The font below varies but is interesting to look at so i decided to base my type research on this.

MAIN BRIEF ILLUSTRATIONS : SALLY ANNE BROOKS

This post is about me experimenting in the artist style but developing it by using certain aspects of this artist work. With Sally Anne Brooks i want to use one of the same material's as her which is watercolour. I then decided to combine this with fine liner creating squiggly affects to give it a much more free hand drawn appeal that would grab the attention of primary school children.

MAIN BRIEF ILLUSTRATIONS : LAURA HUGHES

With Laura Hughes i tried to use her way of drawing and turn it into my own by combining a child like way of drawing with a limited colour palette with watercolour crayon as some parts of Laura's images used watercolour paint.

MAIN BRIEF FINAL LAYOUT< COLUMNS AND GRID DESIGNS

We had a lecture with designer Lynda talking into the technical aspects of layouts, grids and columns like the technical words used in the industry and some examples of designs that used these grids.

This is to show you my process of coming up with layout designs using columns and grids, this could either be hand drawn work from my sketchbook showing my trial and errors or me experimenting with the ideas i already have and adapting them if needed on Indesign.

Examples below are done on Indesign experimenting with layouts
